Michael Semmer is a PhD candidate and research associate at the Institute for Customer Insight at the University of St. Gallen (ICI-HSG). He is responsible for the new «CAS SMART Mobility Management driven by SMART Data & SMART Cities« Executive Education Program. The certificate course focuses on the management of the opportunities and challenges of the mobility transformation and is tailored to managers and experts in the mobility industry, start-ups, career changers, employees in municipal transport/administrations and governments. His research focuses on autonomous driving as well as Mobility-as-a-Service and he works in the team of Prof. Dr. Andreas Herrmann.
Michael studied Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Graz University of Technology and acquired a second Master degree in Vehicle Engineering at Tongji University in Shanghai. During his studies he gained international experience at Porsche in China, Magna and AVL in Austria, MIBA in the USA and Audi in Germany. He also worked as a scientific research assistant for autonomous driving at the Institute of Automotive Engineering at Graz University of Technology and did research in the areas of advanced driver assistance systems, human trajectory selection and sensor technologies. As part of his self-employment, Michael is investigating the influences and opportunities of future mobility, including the study “Staying on the winning track” commissioned by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Mobility (BMK) and the Federation of Austrian Industry (IV), which quantifies the effects of the drivetrain electrification on the Austrian automotive industry.
